Your "To Do List" and basically what you are bidding on:
The basic properties of the front end revolves around something like this: http://bit.ly/eIlsjR . The user will get a chance to pick his/her preferences for what to display but that will be for a secondary "options" interface as I like the main pages simple - instead of a selection pane on the left hand side like on that site. Our site must remember what the user (whether that is via cookie, or the registered user's preferences via login email, will be decided later) choose. As we a re a location based site, the user's ip needs to be deciphered and the listings tailored to his/her location upon first entry into the site.
The Backend. The back end's most important job will be to retrieve data to show users. The retrieval of data will be done via API, affiliate links, scraping, or using their RSS feeds. It will be your job to conceptualize this and document the requirements needed to the contractors that will be doing this portion. There are 100+ different sites where we will retrieve data from. That list is growing as well as changing, but you will most likely not need to do hands on work in this regard as contractors will most likely be hired to do the site by site items. You do need to make sure the whole database would be flexible and ‘easy’ enough for contractors to code and adjust for.
Front End: You/your team are responsible for all programming on the front end of the website. We have already hired graphics/artist assets.
Overseeing the Email database and sendmail.
The webmaster CMS. You will be responsible for programming the CMS through which we control all content. We are open to a off the shelf or opensource solution if that is what you recommend.
Do the above with Security in mind.
I am intentionally withholding the name of the niche as there are many clones out there; I am proposing to do something totally different from the clones. I would not be wasting my time if I didn't think I could be a category killer in this highly valued (and by that I mean 'stock valuation') niche.
