Configure Windows 2003 Iis6.0 For Perl And Mysql
Required skills: MySQL, Perl/CGI, Windows, Windows 2003 IIS6.0, Linux, IIS, Windows 2008 IIS7.0, CPAN, Perl Modules
Hi All,
The Brief is:
1) Access the clients Windows 2003 IIS6.0 server via LogMeIn
2) Create a subdomain in the IIS System Manager e.g. http://subdomain.yoursite.com
3) Check ActivePerl is installed correctly and if not re-install
4) Check MySQL is installed correctly and if not re-install.
5) Access the IIS System manager, create a cgi-bin in the above subdomain and configure it to allow .pl scripts to execute using perl.exe
6) Create a MySQL Database, MySQL username + password and assign to the database with "ALL Privileges" enabled.
7) Confirm perl is operating correctly from the newly created cgi-bin with a hello world script or similar.
8) Ensure the following Perl modules are installed:
DBI
DBD::MYSQL
Archive::Tar
Archive::Zip
Compress::Zlib
and if not download from CPAN and install.
9) Check the SMTP mail server or similar is setup with all relays enabled so that a script can send an email via localhost.
We are a company which specialises in Perl script development and are mainly Linux Guys. The above scenario or a variant of the above occurs on a fairly frequent basis on both Windows 2003 IIS6.0 and Windows 2008 II7.0 and so if this works out ok we would be looking to use the chosen developer for future jobs as the go to person for other Windows server setups for other new clients who have bought Windows servers but haven't a clue how to configure them :-)
