Simple Sony "rootkit" remover
Required skills: C/C++, Visual Basic
I need a compiled application (.exe) that will remove the Sony root kit.
When installed, the file creates a service named "$ sys$ aries" using file aries.sys located in the hidden folder %sysdir%$ sys$ filesystem.The display name given to this service is “Network Control Manager Service”.
It also Creates HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\
$ sys$ aries
The steps that the program needs to take are simple.
1. When run it puts up a screen which says "Searching for the Sony Rootkit. Please wait"
2. It executes the following command:
cmd /k sc delete $ sys$ aries and checks for a return value of either 1 if the registry entry was found and deleted or 0 if it was not.
3. If the file registry entry was found, the system will will create a temporary startup file, tell the user that the Sony Rootkit was found and disabled, and prompt the user to reboot to complete the process.
4. Upon rebooting the startup file will delete the folder and contents of %sysdir%$ sys$ filesystem and then delete the temporary startup file so that it does not run again.
I require:
1. A compiled executable in a language that is compatable with Windows 98 forward.
2. Complete source code including any required libraries, and linking scripts. Full disclosure on the linker and compiler used.
3. An acceptable installer that can be downloaded and used to install the program on the user's machine.
4. An uninstall program that the user can run afterwards if they want to. Even better would be for the system to register itself so the user can use the standard "Uninstall Software" windows option.
5. The executable should register itself as: SONY Rootkit Remover.
