3D Character Programmer / Game Programmer Needed ASAP!
Required skills: 3D Animation, 3D Rendering, Flash, PHP, Software Architecture
Project: We are in need of a talented 3D character (Game) programmer to design and implement a web-based animated character. The character’s 2D/3D files will be provided for implementing programming. Please find below the specific requirements.
Experience Level: Medium to Advance—Game Programming experience recommended.
Budget: Not to exceed $ 1,000.00
 Behavioral character: The character will have behavioral attributes based on user defined functions (such as Dancing, Calling, etc) similar to Microsoft window character (Help).
 Outfitting: The character’s outfitting (cloths, shoes, glasses, etc) can be changed by the user through a GUI similar to Sitepal.com avatars.
 Response / Interaction: The character will respond to mouse movement or touch (in the case of touch screens) in interacting with user. For example, when the user moves mouse over a particular area of screen or hovers over an icon or specified text, the character will engage user to further explore: provide more information, ask for specific function such as “Do you want to call number?” or “Do you need direction to this location?” etc.
In-Scope / Responsibility: The programmer will be responsible for re-designing character from 2D/3D file type, which he/she decide. The programmer will create a way to combine various components (animation parts) to animate in accordance with function requested.
For example, when the character is asked to tell the weather, the character will appear in the proper accessories (parts already created in 3D such as umbrella for rain or cold jacket and booth for snow) then a pop board or map will appear (will be provided as 3D component) then character will use pointer to give weather information based on database feed.
The programmer will need to categorize character 3D components in a database structure, so that when a particular function is called into play, the relevant components based on specific program logic (such as in the case of the weatherman: umbrella in play, booth in play, weather talking in play—mouth movement; weather stage in play etc) will sequence accordingly.
The programmer will create user interface to change character settings. Such as how often to report weather or set auto pop on or off etc. The programmer will decide what can be set and what will become part of program routine.
As explained earlier, the character attributes (Behavioral, Outfitting, and Response etc) will be designed so that the specific attributes are fed from a database. That is, the character will be entirely database driven.
So, for instance:
The Behavioral character will be in one category…say, Character thinking—finger on head; head angled, foot taping etc will be individually defined in the database, so that the character’s program will call on specific attribute (s) when a particular behavior is required (or in play). Sub-category(ies) of behavior can be grouped as illustrated above—character thinking.
Note: Please keep in mind the character is web-based thus resource limitation. So, please choose an appropriate program that will maximize quality and responsiveness. And of course on a platform that is widely available—such as through Adobe Director or Flash or through video files. A 3D artist will work with programmer until completion.
Out of Scope: The following are out of scope for this project. However, the animator must work with the appropriate developer (Database programmer, Web-designer, Speech Programmer, VOIP Programmer etc) to create and implement functionalities relevant to this project (that is, in-scope).
 Speech Platform: Speech synthesis or voice recognition is out of scope. So for example, a user issues a voice command, “Call Alpha.” The programming of voice recognition and synthesis is not the animator’s responsibility. The animator is only responsible for creating the character animation for the particular function, in this case, the “Call” function. Additionally, the animator will load the voice response file, “Making Call or Calling 2124580000” from a specified database and animate character accordingly (mouth movements etc). The handling of events (animation flow) and database feeds are programming responsibilities of the animator.
 Website Design or User Platform: The animator is not responsible for designing or programming of website or any user platform where character will be displayed. The website designer (or appropriate developer) will perform this task; however, the animator will work with the developer in the relevant areas (project specific) to complete the task.
BONUS / Other Benefits: There is a $ 200.00 bonus for creativity, responsiveness and timely completion. The prospective developer will be extended an offer to maintain and develop character for two years, payable monthly at an agreed upon rate and term. And lastly but not the least, the developer will be giving preferential treatment for future animation projects.
