This project is for the development of an embedded device that integrates the following; GSM, GPS and ODB2 scanner.
The following are the requirements. 1. Device will be used to track vehicles and relay their locations as well as information gathered by the ODB2 scanner. 2. Data will be sent back to a centralized location via a multitude of methods including but not limited to SMS, E-mail, FTP, HTML. 3. Gathered data will be stored until polled or until transmitted. 4. Device will have ability to be updated, reconfigured, reprogrammed remotely while in service. 5. Device will incorporate an ignition interruption method. 6. Device will incorporate an door lock/unlock method. 7. Device will be able to handle variations in power such as surges and dips. 8. Device will operate with vehicle turned off. 9. Device will have a backup battery. 10. Device will have the ability to add a display and input method for diagnostic and future feature/functionality. 11. All hardware/technologies used will be readily available via normal retail channels such as Digikey, Newark, Sparkfun, etc. 12. Final product/plan/code will be provided in a production-ready format and will be the sole property of our company. Sidenote: Initial development has incorporated Telit GM862-GPS (http://www.telit.com/en/products/gsm-gprs.php?p_ac=show&p=7). We are not dead set on this device and are open to suggestions for a better platform.
