I’m looking for a Linux expert to help me with system admin activities involved in migrating a number of LAMP-based Web-applications from a dedicated Linux server at Rackspace.com to a Cloud server at a provider such as http://www.gigenetcloud.com/ or http://www.vps.net/
I want both some help with migrating some of the apps, but also help with teaching me how to use a Cloud server and how to migrate apps (I’m pretty experienced, but still definitely need the occasional expert advice to get me unstuck).
All the apps are primarily used by myself only. There’s little overall traffic on my server. The context of this is hobby, not business.
Together with the apps we’d also have to migrate a number of associated domain names, email accounts, email forwarding setups, etc.
Once the migration is complete I may occasionally engage you for future system admin activities. For instance, I know that I’ll want to set up an Etherpad open-source install on the server, too – see http://etherpad.com/ ).
My goal is to significantly reduce my monthly costs (currently $ 175 with Rackspace) and to also get the Cloud benefit of server image snapshots allowing for an easier server restore in case of failures, and other benefits that come with a Cloud server solution.
I’ll need solid evidence that you are trustworthy, since you will have root access to my servers. This may include meaningful references from notable previous employers or your working for a company with a great reputation. Please only bid on this project if you can provide these.
