I need a simple electronic design that communicate with my visual basic program through a USB port or something similar. The little electronic device timer has a relay switch as an output where I can connect to a lamp to switch on or off on a time intervention. On the software side, I can set the time and date for a daily or one time operation to automatically turn on a lamp for(example). Finally, after I set the time and date in my visual basic program, i could shutdown my computer and the information I entered in my program will be stored in my electronic device and wait to activate the relay switch on the time i set. Plus the electronic device has it own backup power (battery) to power the relay switch without having the computer power on. This is just a general run down of my idea, will give full details later. Electronic skills required.

This job is for circuit design only - I can build the design once completed as long as basic off-the-shelf components are used.

Must look decent, can be made out of plastic, out of this toy or whatever. Must be clean, look professionall done and work well.

The Flash file must use the server's local time (not the visitor's) clock as the basis for the countdown.
The countdown must be able to use graphics for the digits instead of text, so I would create a 1.gif, 2.gif, etc.
I'd the configuation to be done from an external XML/text file, so I can easily change the URL, the destination date/time and the path to the graphics folder without having to edit the FLA and recompile.
